CEDAC exported large volume of organic rice to the US

The Cambodian Center for Study and Development in Agriculture (CEDAC) exported 114 tonnes of organic jasmine rice to the U.S. in the first quarter of this year, a 30 percent increase compared with the same period last year, reports the Phnom Penh Post.

Nexus at SNV Cambodia’s Workshop

Nexus participated in a workshop entitled “Promoting Investment in Rice Husk Generated Energy in the Rice Milling Sector” on 25th April, 2013 at Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh. The event was organized by SNV Cambodia with funding provided by EU-SWITCH-Asia.

During the workshop, Eleonora Gatti, Nexus’ Carbon Project Officer, presented a consultancy report that aimed to identify clear pathways towards the development of a carbon rice husk gasification project and adopting of environment-friendly rice husk gasification technologies in Cambodia.

The workshop had around 50 participants from both the public and private sectors. The overall aim of the workshop was to discuss and validate the results from the report entitled “Green House Gas Emissions Reduction Baseline and Environmental Impact Study” done by Nexus.

The report helps to contribute to the overall goal of strengthening the rice milling sector in Cambodia by increasing milled rice production and reducing poverty in rural areas, through the effective and sustainable use of rice husk gasification technologies.
