History

CEDAC is a Cambodian NGO created in 1997 that specializes in ecological agriculture and rural development.

CEDAC currently employs more than 200 national staff, most of them based in the field.

  • As of July 2009, 100,000 rural families from 3,375 villages throughout Cambodia have participated in or benefited from CEDAC’s agricultural and rural development program. CEDAC has formed a strong network of 1,140 village-based, grassroots farmers associations, and provided facilitation and support for capacity building.
  • In 2006 WENetCam (Wood Energy Network Cambodia) has disseminated around 1,000 fuel-efficient cookstoves to primary schools under the WFP’s School Feeding Program. In the strategic plan for 2010-2014, CEDAC is committed to work with around 500,000 rural families and disseminate an additional 30,000 improved cookstoves.

CEDAC’s key programs are organized into the following departments:

  • Field Program/Farmer and Nature Program: building farmers’ capacity in family-based ecological agriculture; community-based savings groups and networks; producers organization, network and link farmers to markets; water-user communities; improving the living conditions and social status of marginalized, vulnerable and under-represented social groups; contributing to the development of democratic local governance.
  • Research Consultancy: Project feasibility studies and evaluations as well as agricultural and socio-economic research.
  • CEDAC Institute for Local Development: providing training to farmers, extension workers and rural youth on agriculture and rural development.
  • Publication and Communication: producing learning materials (farmers’ magazine, technical booklets, training tools, etc.)
  • CEDAC Enterprise for Social Development: providing capacity building and management support to producers to enable them to get a fair price for their products.

Ms. Chantheang Tong, Programme Officer:

Mrs. TONG Chantheang received her Bachelor’s degree in Forestry Science from the Agriculture University of Cambodia in Phnom Penh. She has been working with CEDAC for 9 years, focusing on wood energy network coordination, research consultancy, community livelihood improvement, project design and implementation, and fundraising. She has been the improved cookstoves and climate change key actorfor CEDAC since 2007
