History

ARTI was registered as a scientific society in April 1996 by a group of scientists, Engineers and social workers committed to rural development.

To date ARTI has completed 80 projects sponsored by various funding agencies.

It has emerged as an internationally respected R&D institution working with innovative appropriate technologies in the field of rural development. ARTI has standardized and field-tested 30 technologies to offer to rural entrepreneurs through its Rural Entrepreneurship Development Centre (REDC).

Prizes/AwardsAshden for renewable energy in 2002 and for sustainable energy in 1996 and 2006, US EPA-PCIA, World Technology Award in 'Environment' Category 2005, Vasantrao Naik Social Award 2007 for Appropriate Technology for agricultural and rural development.

Dr. Priyadarshini Karve, Technicle:

Our representative, Dr. Priyadarshini Karve, received a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pune, India, in 1998. She has been coordinating the activities aimed at commercially promoting ARTI’s biomass energy technologies since 2003. She was one of the team members that developed the technology for converting agricultural waste into charbriquettes, which won ARTI the Ashden Award for Renewable Energy in 2002. At present she is also the director of Samuchit Enviro Tech Pvt Ltd, which is ARTI’s commercial collaborator. She is also a guest lecturer at the Symbiosis Center for Liberal Arts where she is offering two courses:”Science and Sustainable Development” and”Living with Climate Change”. In 2009 she successfully completed the online course on Energy and Sustainable Development offered by Lund University, Sweden.
