Hydrologic is a social Enterprise established in 2010. The company has 50 staff. It is a spin off from International Development Enterprises Cambodia, which is a non-governmental organization that has a market-based approach to poverty reduction. Hydrologic is manufacturing and distributing ceramic water purifiers (CWP) which are an alternative to boiling water for rural households in Cambodia that generally do not have access to safe water. The CWP offers reduced burden on natural rainforests in Cambodia, reduced carbon footprint, improved health for end users from cleaner drinking water and improved indoor air quality due to less boiling taking place. Using less fuel wood means less time spent by poor families and children gathering wood, time that can now be dedicated to education or income generating projects. Furthermore, the money saved by families on fuel expenses, medicines or loss of productivity due to sickness from poor drinking water quality can now be spent on education or new economic activities.
