Development practitioners work on a wide range of affordable and appropriate technologies to address energy poverty, and carbon finance is a long-term financing opportunity for these projects. Nexus is the first global alliance of social ventures (nonprofits, nongovernmental organizations and eco-businesses) whose central mission is to reduce climate change while alleviating poverty by providing access to carbon finance to low carbon project developers.
These low carbon projects have different financial needs at different stages of their lifecycle. Early in the cycle, grant funding is required to fund studies which will determine whether the project is eligible for carbon financing. Once the project is identified as being eligible for carbon financing, it can apply for a loan from Nexus, which will be paid back from the sale of carbon credits generated by the project.
Nexus is seeking capital for its investment fund, called the Nexus Fund. Investors with high social and environmental awareness interested in contributing to the Nexus Fund will benefit from the Nexus diversified projects pipeline.
Benefits of the Nexus Fund:
With the support of private partners and institutions, the Grant for Innovation Programme awards grant funding for innovative approaches that address climate change mitigation and poverty alleviation through:
1. Technology innovation: Testing and validating new pro-poor low carbon technologies that will lead to higher user friendliness, higher technological efficiency, higher co‐benefits for end users.
2. Market innovation: Piloting the dissemination of existing technologies and proven concepts in a new market.
