What are Nexus Objectives?
As an alliance of social ventures, our goal is to enable an equitable and transparent access to carbon finance for projects addressing climate change mitigation and sustainable development.
Nexus' objectives:
- Speed up transfers of technology and expertise by bringing development practitioners together in a global alliance and through capacity building.
- Facilitate the scaling up of low carbon development projects by supporting this scaling up (technical assistance and funding mobilisation) and by supporting technological innovation that will enable the emergence of tomorrow’s mature technologies.
- Improve market access conditions for these projects, by encouraging market standards to take development project constraints into consideration and by reducing project developers’ dependence on carbon credit trading intermediaries.
Nexus facilitates:
- Improved access to clean and affordable energy for the poor in developing countries. Examples of projects include: improved cookstoves, biogas, gasification, biofuel.
- Improved health and living conditions for local communities. This can be accomplished by reducing emissions and exposure to toxic gases and reducing the time and money spent by communities on fuel collection/purchasing.
- Capacity building to foster knowledge and share technology. The objective is for every Nexus member organization to develop technical strengths which they can share with the other alliance members.
- New opportunities for socially and environmentally responsible investments for premium quality carbon credit projects to finance clean development, especially in least developed countries (LDCs) and impoverished areas of developing countries.
- Transparency in the carbon market via the Nexus gateway, through which carbon credits and carbon proceeds are transferred. Nexus controls the quality of credits issued, reports to investors and monitors the use of carbon proceeds.
